Ready-to-use, time-saving training designed to address important health education topics reflected in EPSDT and the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Head Start parents want the best for their children - but navigating health systems, appointments, and screenings can be overwhelming. Our trainings bridge the gap. They help parents understand the importance of check-ups, immunizations, dental care, vision and hearing screenings, and how to build healthy routines at home.
Better health literacy can help parents feel more informed and confident while supporting your program’s family education and compliance efforts.
Understanding Well-Child Visits and Vaccinations
Regular checkups are more than routine appointments—they give families a chance to understand a child’s growth, development, vaccinations, and emerging health needs. Parents learn what to expect, how to prepare questions, where to find trustworthy information, and how Head Start can support immunization and preventive-care requirements.
Healthy Nutrition on a Budget
Healthy meals can be realistic, nourishing, and affordable. Families explore how balanced nutrition supports growth, immunity, learning, and lifelong health while learning practical ways to plan meals, shop wisely, read labels, cook at home, use food resources, and partner with the Head Start Nutrition Coordinator.
Oral Health: Preventing Cavities and Gum Disease
A healthy smile supports much more than appearance—it can influence eating, sleep, speech, learning, confidence, and overall well-being. This training shows parents how to prevent cavities and gum disease through brushing, flossing, fluoride, healthy food and drink choices, early dental visits, and Head Start and community dental resources.
Promoting Mental Health and Emotional Well-being
Children’s emotional health shapes how they learn, connect, manage feelings, and respond to challenges. Parents learn to recognize signs of stress and anxiety, strengthen emotional regulation, use positive parenting approaches, know when professional help may be needed, and connect with Head Start mental-health and community supports.
Physical Activity and Screen Time
Movement gives young children the foundation to grow stronger, feel better, connect with others, and stay ready to learn. This training includes age-appropriate activity guidance, playful ideas for indoors and outdoors, practical screen-time boundaries, family routines that encourage movement, and community resources that make active living more achievable.
Preventing Common Childhood Illnesses
Small, consistent habits can make a meaningful difference in preventing illness. Parents learn how vaccinations, handwashing, cough and sneeze etiquette, cleaning, healthy nutrition, and staying home when sick help protect children and communities. The training also explains symptoms, warning signs, and when to contact a healthcare provider or Head Start Health Coordinator.
Building Healthy Sleeping Habits
Rest is essential to a child’s growth, learning, mood, immunity, and daily participation. Families learn age-appropriate sleep and nap needs, calming bedtime routines, ways to address common sleep challenges, strategies for balancing screens and physical activity, and when to seek guidance from Head Start or a healthcare provider.
Good Hygiene: Healthy Habits for Children
From handwashing to toothbrushing, everyday hygiene routines help children stay healthy while building confidence, independence, and responsibility. Parents learn practical techniques for handwashing, bathing, grooming, oral care, cough and sneeze etiquette, and avoiding shared personal items—plus fun ways to make healthy habits stick at home and in the community.
Safety at Home and in the Community
Children learn safety best when adults combine preparation, supervision, and simple explanations. This training helps families reduce risks at home, in vehicles, outdoors, and in the community through child-proofing, fall, burn, and poison prevention, car-seat safety, playground and water safety, emergency planning, road safety, and protective equipment.
Navigating Healthcare and Community Resources
Finding the right care can feel complicated, especially when families face cost, transportation, insurance, or language barriers. Parents learn how to use checkups, vaccinations, insurance, community clinics, financial-assistance programs, and trusted providers—and how to advocate for their child and work with Head Start Health Coordinators.
Building Healthy Relationships and Social Skills
Friendships, communication, empathy, and emotional regulation are skills children can learn through everyday interactions. Families discover ways to teach sharing, turn-taking, kindness, active listening, respectful communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, boundaries, and positive friendship habits with support from Head Start Mental Health Coordinators.
Special Health Needs and Chronic Conditions
Every child deserves care that recognizes strengths, respects individual needs, and supports meaningful participation. This training introduces families to chronic conditions, developmental delays, disabilities, and emotional or behavioral challenges, while explaining care plans, emergency action plans, accommodations, advocacy, specialized services, financial assistance, and coordinated support through Head Start and healthcare partners.
It is a set of 12 on-demand health trainings for families of children ages 3–5, available in English and Spanish. Parents learn practical health topics they can use at home, which helps them follow through with screenings, appointments, and health requirements.
When families understand health requirements, they follow through with screenings and appointments, documentation improves, and staff spend less time repeating the same education. Informed families make the health component's work easier.
The 12 trainings cover the everyday health topics families of preschoolers ask about most — checkups, dental care, nutrition, sleep, vaccines, hygiene, and more — in plain, parent-friendly language, in both English and Spanish.
They are fully produced in Spanish — natural, professional Spanish for families — not word-for-word translations. The English and Spanish versions carry the same facts and cover the same topics.
Families watch on-demand, anytime, from home. Programs purchase access for their families; request institutional pricing and Dr. Sandoval will personally prepare your quote.
